Funding the future with Sunsail

The competition that gave UK sailing clubs the chance to win a £5,000 grant for their club.

The Challenge

Home of global sailing holidays, Sunsail, had an objective to increase participation in sailing as a sport. They had the idea to run a competition targeting UK sailing clubs and called upon ADPR's wealth of experience to ensure that all promotional opportunities surrounding the competition would be maximised. This contest marketing example would raise awareness of sailing clubs around the UK, whilst offering one club the chance to win £5,000 to transform their club and promote the growth of grass-roots sailing.

“Sunsail’s Funding the Future campaign hit the spot first-time and really caught the imagination of our readers. It was a pleasure to be part of the judging panel and I believe that Solva Sailing Club’s entry, and the subsequent developments that have been made there, really encapsulated the whole idea of the initiative. It was YachtsandYachting.com hopes to support and be a part of Funding the Future for as long as possible.”

The Solution

After naming the competition, ADPR worked closely with the marine media to generate coverage of the press materials we had created for Funding the Future, in order to maximise the amount of entries. Following ongoing media relations activity, ADPR generated positive press coverage around the competition and achieved a strong number of club entries.

The winner was announced at a Sunsail’s media event at London Boat Show, for which ADPR invited marine journalists and handled the media side of the event – generating coverage, ensuring attendees were there and capturing material for a post-show round-up.

The Results

Over 50 sailing clubs across the UK entered the competition
Coverage gained across key marine publications.
Established media partnership with a key marine title.
Invited and confirmed well above the KPI for media attendees at the announcement event.
Social media engagement increases (Facebook likes/ followers etc).
