Global technical sailing and outdoor brand, Helly Hansen introduces its latest Summer 2022 collection, with responsible design developments across all categories, including its revolutionary waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY™ technology.
A particular highlight of the season, Helly Hansen expands its responsible waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY™ technology into new designs within the Sailing, Outdoor and Urban categories. The first-to-market technology is introduced across the brand’s Ægir and Odin collections, built for sailing and outdoor professionals respectively, and in the Urban collection’s standout Modular Ride Infinity Jacket.
As ever, the collections reflect Helly Hansen’s commitment to creating professional-grade gear that is trusted by professionals. This season’s products incorporate first-hand insights from sailing and search and rescue professionals, ensuring the gear is created to withstand challenging conditions and environments without compromising on comfort and functionality.
Whether coastal sailing or exploring offshore, trekking mountains, or living and commuting in and around the city, Helly Hansen’s new Summer collection offers performance, comfort, safety and protection in stylish, purpose-built designs.
Summer 2022 highlights
Sailing:
Adding to the collection is the Skagen Offshore Jacket (RRP £325) – a classic sailing jacket that shares ergonomics and features with the brand’s leading Ægir collection. Waterproof, windproof and breathable, the jacket features HELLY TECH® Performance construction – a tough weatherproof system designed for high-performance sailing activities during challenging conditions. The jacket also contains a minimum of 50% recycled content — including high-quality Ocean Bound recycled material, made by repurposing abandoned, lost and discarded fishing gear such as fishing buoys, which are otherwise a major source of marine rubbish.
The HP Foil Shell Jacket (RRP £350) furthers the collection, learning from insights developed on movement together with American Magic professional sailors during the Foil Series for the 36th America’s Cup. Built with an improved aerodynamic performance at higher speeds, one of the jacket’s key features is the hi-vis hood – an addition for increased safety and visibility.
Outdoor:
For Summer 2022, the brand’s LIFA INFINITY™ technology also features in the new Odin 1 World Infinity Jacket (RRP £400), built for lightweight durability and high-level protection from wind and rain. The jacket is designed with a fully waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY™ membrane, which is achieved without the use of chemicals and is built with sturdy recycled fabric content and a PFC-free durable water-repellent treatment. It delivers extreme waterproofness and breathability using HELLY TECH® Professional construction. Developed with insights from the Squamish Search and Rescue team in British Columbia, Canada, the jacket is suitable for year-round use and includes chest vents and optimised seam placement for enhanced comfort.
This season’s Outdoor collection also introduces the Odin Pro Shield Jacket (RRP £160), designed for lightweight breathability without compromising on durability and protection. The jacket is a cool-weather cross-layer designed for enhanced versatility in shifting mountain conditions. It features a fortified fleece fabric that offers high durability and protection in the outdoors and boasts a PFC-free DWR treatment for water-repellent protection.
Midlayer:
Designed with insights from the Seattle Mountain Rescue team, the Rapide Lifaloft Air Jacket (RRP £220) is ideal for high output activity as well as layering up or down. It features Helly Hansen’s innovative LIFALOFT™ Air 75g insulation – lighter and warmer insulation offering maximum breathability, which was first integrated into the brand’s AW21 collection development. The jacket is constructed with an everlasting DWR-infused face fabric made without any chemical coating. SS22 will be the first season the brand introduces this innovative fabric treatment.
Urban:
Designed particularly with bike commuters in mind, the Modular Ride Infinity Jacket (RRP £450) features Helly Hansen’s responsible, waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY™ technology. The professional-grade waterproof/breathable LIFA INFINITY™ membrane is achieved without the use of chemicals. The jacket is also constructed using 50% recycled face content and a PFC-free durable water-repellent treatment, delivering the extreme waterproofness and breathability users would expect from HELLY TECH® Professional construction. A 2-in-1 jacket and vest, the designs ensures it is highly versatile and adjustable for comfort and freedom of movement, with a lightweight and reversible vest that is also removable. Boasting hi-vis material on the inside, a secured pocket and a reflective collar, the vest offers high visibility in all situations, and can be added or removed based on temperature and visibility needs.
Footwear:
This season’s Footwear collection introduces two new quick-dry sailing styles designed to be breathable and comfortable, on or off the boat. The Salt Cruiser V1 (RRP £110) boasts a unique sailing silhouette with an engineered, quick-drying construction and great breathability. Protective and supportive, the shoe’s HH® Lite-Frame technology offers enhanced stability, while the HH® Pro-Guard toecap and moulded heel-cap offer additional protection in unstable conditions. A rubber cupsole and HH® Storm Grip outsole ensures impressive traction, regardless of the surface.
The HP Foil V2 (RRP £100) is a lightweight all-rounder for the season – a sleek performance shoe offering protection and enhanced agility for use in a variety of watersport environments. This low-cut shoe features HH® Lite-Frame technology, for more stability without the added weight, and an open-mesh construction for enhanced breathability and flexibility. The protective rubber cupsole includes a comfortable, removable EVA footbed, which includes quick-drying and antimicrobial treatment.
