Helly Hansen is proud to announce its support of this year’s Walking With The Wounded expedition: Walk of America.
Building on the incredible success of Walk of Britain in 2015, Walk of America will see six injured service men and women from the United States and the United Kingdom walk more than 1,000 miles across America on an epic adventure to raise awareness for the charity and its work, collecting vital donations from the public and organisations they meet along the way. This year’s crew is made up of: Kev Carr (Royal Logistics Corps), Kemsley Whittlesea (Royal Signals), Jonny Burns (Royal Anglian), Frankie Perez (CPL, US Army National Guard), Adele Loar (Msgt, US Air Force) and Larry Hinkle (Sgt, US Marine Corps).
Helly Hansen returns to support the gruelling challenge by providing the team with the technical kit required to ensure they are fully prepared for the challenge ahead. The team will be accompanied by a further 30 volunteers who will provide them with support along the trek.
Victoria Nicholson from Walking With The Wounded, comments, “We are once again delighted to be partnering with Helly Hansen – who have supported us on all of our previous expeditions to date, ensuring that we have the best possible clothing for our expedition teams and support crew – no matter what the conditions. Our partnership guarantees the team are equipped with the most suitable clothing for this 1,000 mile walk, across varied terrain and in the extreme conditions of the US summer, enabling their comfort as they embark on this epic 14 week challenge across the US.”
Walk of America kicked off on 2 June 2018 in Los Angeles walking through San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and New Orleans. The second stage will start from the Grand Canyon on 9 July when the team will walk to Jacksonville through another six states, with a special appearance from the NFL team for the last two weeks. The finale of this epic challenge will start in Charleston, walking all the way through to New York for the ultimate finish on 8 September 2018.
Emma Russell, Marketing Manager for Helly Hansen in the UK, Ireland and Benelux, comments, “Having protected and enabled the team members on many previous expeditions, Helly Hansen is delighted to continue its journey with Walking With The Wounded. The organisation does fantastic work to inspire and motivate wounded servicemen and women from all walks of life, and we are thrilled to support these professionals in their rehabilitation and re-education, specifically though the Walk of America challenge. This is a phenomenal opportunity to raise awareness of this incredible cause, and we look forward to this year’s epic challenge.”
This year’s campaign officially launched on 11 April at the Mandarin Oriental in London, with HRH Prince Harry – the Patron for the charity – in attendance.
